Lincoln Park Four's

Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 12:00 - 2:30 pm

Introduction:

Fours are preparing for Kindergarten in many ways. They continue to learn through playing, exploring and creating, but new areas of pre-academics are added to their preschool environment. They are exposed to pre-math and pre-science concepts through more complex activities. There is a writing center where they may dictate a story to an adult scribe or practice their fine motor skills drawing or writing letters or words, according to their interests. Meetings include the calendar, weather reporting and discussions of curriculum theme topics. They are also developing their social skills, learning to solve problems, empathize with their friends, and manage their emotions.

As a parent, Heidi Van Brost has been involved with Lincoln Park Cooperative Preschool since 2004, when her oldest daughter was two years old. She embraces the co-op values and utilizes her experiences in the classroom. As a teacher, Heidi began her first year in September 2007. Encouraged by other co-op parents and teachers, she applied for the position. She’s so happy she did. She loves teaching and puts her whole heart into it. She spends time with each child every day of class, striving to develop a trusting, respectful relationship with the children and parents. Her background includes volunteering in kindergarten classes, instructing snowboarding to both children and adults, tutoring ESL students, substitute teaching in preschool classes, teaching Spanish, and motherhood. She enjoys hiking, snowboarding, camping, walks on the beach, stewardship of the Earth, gardening, music and spending time with her kids and her class.
